This is the manifest entry for Johann Ufkes, whose 1870 census enumeration (or the failure to find it) is the focus of issue 40. We'll have a complete citation for the manifest in issue 40 and a lengthy discussion of the organization of my search for him in 1870. Not every ancestor requires the amount of organization when searching in the census, but when the "easy" route fails, it's time to get organized.
